2,642 federal campgrounds with first-come sites
The Forest Service runs most of them. Most of them are in the western states. California has more of them than any other state, and Idaho is next.
A campground is listed when Recreation.gov or the Forest Service records it as first-come, first-served. Campgrounds where some sites book online and the rest are first-come are listed too, marked partly reservable. Data refreshed 2026-10-16.
